A small facilitated group exploring practical uses of GenAI in planning and resource management practice.
Following the first GenAI Skills Lab earlier this year, registrations are now open for the Spring 2026 Cohort, starting Tuesday 13 October.
The GenAI Skills Lab is designed primarily for planners, but is also open to other resource management professionals whose work overlaps with planning practice.
It is for people who have already started using Generative AI and want to build their skills through practical exercises, demonstrations and discussion with others. Examples and exercises will focus mainly on planning and resource management work.
Rather than a formal training course, the Skills Lab is a small facilitated learning group. Each week we will explore a practical GenAI skill or use case, try it out together, and discuss what works, what doesn’t, and how it can be applied in professional practice.

What will we explore
Sessions will focus on practical ways of using GenAI more effectively in professional practice. This may include:
- improving prompts and getting more useful outputs
- working with information and documents
- reviewing and refining written material
- research and information workflows
- developing reusable prompts and instructions
- using AI workspaces and projects
- improving productivity and developing more effective workflows
There will also be time for participants to bring questions, examples and experiences from their own work.
The programme will respond to the interests of the group rather than following a rigid course syllabus.
What level is it?
The Skills Lab is best suited to early beginner to intermediate GenAI users.
You should have used a GenAI service such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini or similar and have some experience writing prompts. You do not need any more advanced skills than some basic experience nor do you need a paid subscription.
The Lab is not intended as an introduction to using GenAI for the first time, nor is it designed primarily for advanced users already using sophisticated or automated AI workflows.
