The NZPI has moved some of the CPD programme online temporarily, and this includes the Emerging Technologies and Resource Management courses I present which were scheduled for 1 May in Tauranga and 13 May in Dunedin. Given these courses are now location-independent it is a great chance to register if you missed it in your region earlier in the year or you need to do more CPD due to other events being cancelled or postponed.
A full day online is challenging to anyone so we have altered the format of the course so it runs for two concurrent mornings. The course already incorporated videos showcasing great uses of emerging technologies in planning plus the time to work in smaller groups to explore how we apply these technologies to our work. The online version will still incorporate these great aspects but we will move between group learning, peer learning and individual learning more frequently to keep things engaging online. We will use breakout rooms within the video call to hold the smaller group discussions – this is all controlled from the presenter end, so as long as you have adapted to zoom (or other video) calls in these past few weeks you will be all set to participate. If video calling is still not in your comfort zone we can address this prior to the course – just let me know. Also check out my post on Work from Home – overcoming your reluctance to video call .
In these challenging times when we are all being asked to adapt to new ways of working en masse and with little other choice it can give technology a negative spin. However this course is not about the day to day technology most of us use now, it is about seeing what our more innovative planning colleagues are doing with emerging technologies. It is about exploring and reflecting on how we can adopt some of these technologies to create positive change and take our work to greater, more effective places in the modern world.
NZPI has reduced the registration fees on its CPD program during lockdown so it is great value CPD points too! Total numbers of attendees have also been reduced to keep things manageable online so be in quick!
